North Lodge was one of the fine lodge houses at the entrances to the private drives to Poltalloch House, which is now ruined. The lodges were as well designed and specified as the main house, as would be expected from buildings which were designed to give visitors the right impression on arrival at the estate.

The building is listed Category B with the following description (taken from www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk):

Dated 1855. William Burn.
Victorian. L-plan. Rusticated rubble; gabled slate roofs.
Cylindrical chimneys. Projecting eaves with exposed timbers.
Carved barge-boards supported on brackets at corners.
Bay-windows. Gabled porch in re-entrant angle; panel above
with date ‘1855’. Interior renovated
